SOUND AND INTERMEDIA CLASSES

Students from media arts programs in Miami-Dade County Public Schools receive mentoring in intermedia design at our facility. This program was established in the Fall of 2005 with an Access to Artistic Excellence grant from the NEA’s Media Arts Program and continues to gain interest in the public schools system.

Students in iSAW’s Mentoring Program get to participate in real world activities and learn about the artistic process by working directly with Professional Artist Mentors at our sound studio in North Miami. Mentors involve the students in the making of their proposed projects, from the conceptual stage up to the presentation of the work in local galleries and concert spaces. Mentoring arrangements vary with each school. Currently isaw enjoys mentoring relationships with Design & Architecture Senior High School through their internship program, and with Miami Springs Senior High students who obtain 7th period credit for their work at our facility.

Miami Beach High School is the latest school to join the program. iSAW plans to develop a two month project in the school to offer students real world experience in the context of the 20th Subtropics Experimental Festival of Music and the Sound Arts.
